A former Covid denier struggled to breathe as he confessed he was wrong to dismiss the pandemic after being hospitalised with the virus.

Chuck Stacey, 50, warned viewers ‘you don ’t want to end up like me ’ in a harrowing video, after previously brushing off coronavirus as ‘a bad flu ’.

After receiving death threats for publicising his battle with coronavirus, he said: ‘I was wrong, can ’t be more wrong. But to wish me death?… What ’s wrong with you people? ’

The former anti-masker, from Inlet Beach, Florida, blasted the ‘continued overreaction to this situation ’ on social media before falling ill.

In May, he wrote on Facebook: ‘I have to say I have had it with the masks that the employees are being forced to wear.

‘It ’s just another example of the continued overreaction to this situation.

‘Please stop so when we come to eat we can enjoy our meal without feeling sorry for the employees. ’

The IT firm owner says he began to change his opinion on the pandemic in early summer after seeing the US death toll surge and started working from home and using hand sanitiser.

He still oped to wear a visor instead of a face covering as he suffers from claustrophobia and believed a mask would offer little protection – despite recommendations from health officials.

Months later, Chuck filmed himself in hospital breathing heavily with a tube up his nose after catching Covid.

Urging skeptics to change their beliefs, he says: ‘I didn ’t wear a mask. I should ’ve. I didn ’t.

‘I believed this was just the flu and it was all going to go away and it was political. I didn ’t think a mask would help.”

’You don ’t want to end up like me. I ’m having trouble breathing. I may have to be intubated if I get any worse. ’

He adds: ‘If wearing a mask can reduce your chances of getting this even by five%, just wear a mask. Do it for your children, your loved ones. Do it for yourself. ’
