A body has been found after a man ‘fell from a boat ’ into a canal in London last night.
Police said a body was discovered just before midday today.
Earlier today, they had said a marine team had been deployed as part of the search.
Temperatures in the capital dropped to below zero last night in Hackney, where the man is believed to have fallen from boat near the Lea Bridge.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Police were called at 7.04pm on Wednesday, 6 January to reports that a man had fallen from a boat into the River Lea near Lea Bridge in Hackney.
‘Specialist officers from the Met ’s Marine Policing Unit were called in to carry out a search of the area.

‘Shortly before midday on Thursday, 7 January, the body of a man believed to be in his thirties was found.
‘He was deceased.
‘Enquiries are ongoing but at this stage the man ’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
‘His next of kin will be informed. ’
